Hiring a Nanny in Phuket: What to Check Before the First Booking
Which documents and references to check
There's no single mandatory nanny certification in Thailand, so the vetting is on you: ask for ID, contacts of previous clients, and read real reviews rather than just the generic phrases in a listing.
A short trial meeting before a full day
Before leaving your child for a full day, arrange a short hour-or-so trial meeting with you present тАФ watch how the nanny interacts with the child and responds to their mood. This is normal practice, not a sign of distrust.
Language and an emergency plan
Confirm in advance what language the nanny speaks and whether it's enough to communicate with your child. Separately agree on what happens if the child gets sick or hurt: who gets called first, and whether the nanny has your number and the clinic's.
A safer way to book
Booking through a catalog with a deposit model means the request goes through a vetted platform rather than a random ad тАФ the deposit confirms the booking, and the full price is discussed and agreed in advance.
