Drone and Action Camera Rental in Phuket: Registration and No-Fly Zones
Drones need to be registered in Thailand
Camera drones and drones above a certain weight require registration with the relevant Thai authorities (NBTC/CAAT) before flying. Renting one doesn't exempt you from this requirement тАФ the pilot, not the rental shop, is responsible for an unregistered flight.
Ask the rental shop whether the specific drone is registered and what you need to carry in case of a check.
Where you cannot fly
No-fly zones include a radius around airports (including Phuket airport), government buildings, and a number of temples and beaches during special events. Check current restricted zones in advance through the CAAT app or website тАФ not after your drone has already been confiscated.
Deposit and damage disputes
Same as with cars: film the equipment's condition at pickup тАФ scratches on the body, propeller condition, camera lens state. That's the only real protection against a damage dispute at return.
A safer way to book
Booking through a catalog with a deposit model means the deposit confirms the reservation rather than blindly covering future disputes тАФ you check the equipment's condition on-site at pickup.
