How much it costs
A simple scooter like a Honda Click or Yamaha Fino runs from 150-200 THB/day on a monthly rental, more for a few days. Bigger models (NMAX, ADV) start around 250-350 THB/day. The longer the rental, the lower the daily rate.
What license you need
By Thai law you need an international driving permit for motorcycles (category A) or a Thai license to ride a bike. A regular license from another country without a translation/apostille isn't formally valid, though in practice many shops overlook this β but it can become a real problem in an accident or a police check.
How the deposit and insurance work
The deposit (usually cash, or sometimes a passport β leaving your passport as a deposit isn't recommended) is refunded when the bike comes back undamaged. Third-party liability insurance covers damage to others, but doesn't always cover the bike itself β confirm this with the specific shop before signing.
What to check before riding off
Photograph the bike from all sides before you leave β this protects you from unfounded claims about old scratches at return. Check the brakes, lights and fuel level on the spot, before you ride away from the shop.
